Carl Edwards took his second consecutive victory in the Chase during Sunday's Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. After taking the lead on lap 57, Edwards only relinquished the position on pit stops. Late in the race, the Office Depot crew chose four tires and the Crew Chief, Bob Osborne, gambled on conserving fuel. The Office Depot Roush Fenway Ford went 69 laps on a single tank of fuel after their last stop.
Edwards had to work his way back through traffic after a restart on lap 270. He moved back into the lead on lap 322 when the cars ahead of him had to stop for fuel. Edwards held onto the lead to get his 15th career Sprint Cup victory.
"My guys did a great job," said Edwards, "We took off there for a while. We made probably the wrong call getting four tires, but Bob came up with a way to win that thing anyway. That was great. It was a great day. The fans are awesome, my guys are awesome, and we're closing ground on Jimmie. That's cool."
Edwards led a career-212 high laps in his eighth win in the Sprint Cup Series this season.
Edwards is currently in second place in the points Chase but his win on Sunday moved him within 106 of the leader. Up next for the Chase drivers is Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday, November 9.
