The Toyota Race of Legends took place at Laguna Seca on Saturday, August 16 during the 35th annual Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races. The field was filled with legendary racers: Derek Bell, Eddie Cheever, Danny Sullivan, Johnny Herbert, Alan Jones, John Watson, Jean-Pierre Jarier, Patrick Tambay, Alain de Cadenet and current Formula One Toyota Driver, Timo Glock. Derek Bell, Eddie Cheever, Danny Sullivan, Alan Jones, John Watson and Patrick Tambay all wore Bell Racing helmets during their careers.
Toyota purchased Bell Mag 4 helmets for the event. The helmets were painted by Alex Alive of Alive Designs with the Toyota design.
The Toyota Race of Legends was one of several races that took place throughout the Monterey Historics weekend of August 15 through 17. In addition to racing, there were several off track attractions, including interactive exhibits and Bell driver, Mario Andretti. Andretti signed autographs and performed demonstration laps.
"An event like the Monterey Historics is an enthusiast's dream. You can see people licking their chops when they walk around," Andretti said, "To be here and to listen to the roar of the engines on all these race cars makes my heart skip a beat."
