Carl Edwards won his second consecutive Sprint Cup race on Saturday, August 23 at Bristol Motor Speedway.  Edwards passed for the lead on lap 470 of the Sharpie 500.  Carl Edwards led early in the race and began lapping cars.  By lap 55, Edwards was no longer out in front but remained close to the leader.  Several cautions, including a red flag on lap 217, kept the race close.

Edwards has won six Sprint Cup races this season and 13 in his career.  With the win on Saturday night, Edwards remained in the second spot in the Sprint Cup points standings, trailing Kyle Busch by 212 points.

There are only two races left before the Chase for the cup begins.  "I don’t think it's gonna be a two-man chase, honestly," Edwards said, "I told somebody that last week. I hope it is. That would be nice to just have to try to beat one guy, but there are so many good guys. I'm standing here looking at Kevin Harvick and Tony [Stewart] and Dale [Earnhardt] Jr. and Matt [Kenseth] and Greg [Biffle] – everyone has the potential to run really well and you can't count any competitors out."
