"I'm just so happy that we won this thing," Edwards said, "We've been close before." Edwards led a race high 71 laps. He pitted with the race leader on lap 93 and came out ahead.
Edwards followed up his Nationwide win on Saturday with another win in the Sprint Cup Series on Sunday. Unlike Saturday's start from the pole, Edwards began Sunday's 3M Performance 400 from the 27th spot. He worked his way up to the front of the pack and led his first lap of the race on lap 75. Several cautions shuffled the lead and Edwards briefly lost the lead on lap 143. Another caution on lap 166 saw Edwards restart in second and by lap 183, he had worked himself into the front position. Two more cautions came out before the end of the race, including one with only six laps remaining in the race. Edwards held on for the final two laps after the restart.
"The key was my crew [Sunday]," Edwards said. "We're winning races, we're gearing up for the Chase and we're feeling stronger than ever. We're here to win a championship. That's what we're here for. The key is keeping Kyle from getting those bonus points."
Carl Edwards is now second in the Sprint Cup points standings. His win on Sunday was his fifth in the Sprint Cup Series this season.
