Bell Racing is the first helmet manufacturer to install the Eject helmet removal system for retail customers. Eject is manufactured by Shock Doctor and drivers may now purchase a Bell Racing helmet with the Eject helmet removal system factory installed.
The Eject helmet removal system allows for the emergency removal of a helmet without additional head and neck movement. The system places a small plastic bladder within the helmet that can be easily inflated using a bulb to facilitate removal. The deflated bladder measures approximately 2 millimeters in thickness and Bell developed a special top pad to house the Eject bladder that does not change or compromise helmet fit or performance.
Bell has installed the Eject helmet removal system in professional driver's helmets for over ten years. Currently, Eject is used in the Indy Racing League, Indy Firestone Lights, NASCAR and Motocross Racing. The Eject helmet removal system was developed in 1985 by John Deagan of Long Grove, IL. Deagan created the system after he experienced a motorcycle crash.
“Bell was the first company to believe in the concept and work with inventor, John Deagan, to incorporate the Eject helmet removal system into auto racing helmets. Many of the professional drivers Bell sponsors have the device installed in their helmets and an increasing number of sanctioning bodies are considering making the Eject helmet removal system mandatory for competitors. We are pleased to work with Shock Doctor to extend this innovation into all levels of racing and provide amateur racers with the opportunity to purchase a helmet with a factory installed Eject helmet removal system.” Kyle Kietzmann, General Manager, Bell Racing Company.
In 2007, Shock Doctor acquired the brand. Bell and Shock Doctor have worked together to enhance driver protection by incorporating the device into helmets for both professional and amateur racers.
“Shock Doctor is thrilled to be furthering our relationship with Bell Helmets through the Eject helmet removal system. Bell has been a supporter of Eject since it was first created by John Deagen many years ago. We feel Eject will continue to exemplify the high standard established by Bell, and we look forward to a mutually beneficial working partnership for years to come.” Patrick Lynch, Motorsport Director, Shock Doctor, Inc.
The Eject helmet removal system is offered at $99.95 and can be purchased through the Bell dealer network. The retail price includes installation.
The Eject helmet removal system is available for all Bell Racing helmets with the exception of the Sport, Sport Mag, Hornet and the Star 500. The Eject system is a special order and drivers should allow 5 to 7 business days for delivery.
