In honor of Hot Rod Magazine's 60th anniversary, the magazine's staff decided it was time to start a Speed Parts Hall of Fame. For the first induction class, a list of 30 products were compiled and a survey was sent to every SEMA member and industry insider. These products were believed to play a significant role in the auto aftermarket.
Based on this survey, Bell Helmets was voted as one of the top 10 most significant products in the history of the auto aftermarket industry. Hot Rod Magazine noted that Bell 500 Helmet was the first effective racing helmet.
The other products that made up the Top 10 were Iskenderian Cams, American Racing Torq-Thrust Wheels, M & H Racemasters, Hurst Four-Speed Shifters, Hilborn Fuel Injection, Cragar S/S Wheels, The Holley 3310, Flowmaster Mufflers and the Auto Meter Monster Tachs. The full article was published in the December 2007 issue of Hot Rod Magazine. The Magazine plans to make the Speed Parts Hall of fame an annual event and will induct five products each year.
